#PaderBolton: two cities in Europe – one friendship

The cities of Paderborn and Bolton are celebrating a special anniversary: 50 years of town twinning. To celebrate this event, the Anglo-German Club Paderborn organised a competition of ideas in March entitled “Blick auf – Spot on! #PaderBolton”. We received creative impressions from young and old and from both cities.

The results are fantastic and colourful: five pairs of pictures showing the diversity and beauty of both cities. From the Bolton skyline to the Three Rabbit Window in Paderborn, from the Town Hall in Bolton to the Historic Town Hall (at Christmas time) in Paderborn – each image tells a story of friendship and relation.

The town twinning between Paderborn and Bolton is a special chapter in the bond between Germans and Britons. ‘We are delighted to be able to maintain and strengthen this friendship in the future,’ says Ilka Mindt, Chairwoman of the Anglo-German Club. The highlight of the celebrations will take place on the day before Libori. Guests from Bolton are also expected to attend the celebrations, including some of the young artists from Bolton.

The pictures and photos from the ideas competition are now available online. They will also be shown on the digital screens in Paderborn and also in Bolton.

Further pairs of pictures of the town twinning are: The Pike, a tower near Bolton that can be seen from afar, as well as the Paderquell area in Paderborn, Paderborn High Cathedral at night and Bolton Parish Church and finally Paderborn Cathedral and St Catherine’s Church in Horwich, a district of Bolton.

“Blick auf – Spot on! #PaderBolton: two cities in Europe – one friendship” is supported by the “Europa-Scheck” initiative of the Ministers für Bundes- und Europaangelegenheiten, Internationales sowie Medien und Chef der Staatskanzlei des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen.
