Digital Art Exhibition “Upload”

„Upload – An exhibition of digital works by the Bolton School of the Arts & artists from Paderborn”

Digital art in a historical setting: British and Paderborn Artists exhibit together.

Under the title “Upload”, the Cultural Office of the City of Paderborn is showing an exhibition with objects by artists from Paderborn’s twin town Bolton in the FORUM JUNGER KÜNSTLER from 29 August to 13 September 2020. The digital objects can be seen, heard and experienced in the vaulted hall (Gewölbesaal) in the gardens of Schloss Neuhaus.

Curator Markus Runte, head of the Paderborn City Museum, is pleased: “Thanks to today’s digital possibilities, we have succeeded in putting together an international exhibition such as ‘Upload’  – even in times of restriction – and presenting it in Paderborn. In the run-up to exhibitions”, he reports, “this time most of the artworks did not come to Paderborn in a van, shipped boxes or by courier, but instead reached the curator via email and data cloud.”

Works by eight artists from the Bolton School of the Arts, Christian Lohre and Elmar Brinkmöller from the ‘Raum für Kunst’ and Patrik Hübner from Paderborn can be seen. “Upload” shows video installations on various topics such as Brexit, self-reflections during the Corona period, sonorous and thought-provoking audio works as well as surprising digital image processing with motifs from art history.

The contact to the Bolton art scene – especially to the artist collective STANDARD – came about in 2016 with an exhibition in Paderborn and since then, together with the ‘Raum für Kunst’, further joint projects have been realized and the artistic friendship deepened.

An installation specially programmed for the exhibition to participate by Patrik Hübner is also part of the “Upload” exhibition and invites visitors to upload selfies and artistically “alienate” them.

Markus Runte: “Especially here in Paderborn, digitization is very important. The digital has become indispensable today – in almost all areas of our life. Let’s be curious to see how digital art will develop and how it will complement traditional formats, means and forms of presentation! This exhibition is an impetus and at the same time a great opportunity to take a closer look at this highly interesting topic. “

“Upload” is a joint exhibition with the ’Raum für Kunst’, organized by the Paderborn Cultural Office. The exhibition runs from August 29th to September 13th, 2020; the opening times are Tuesday to Friday 3pm to 6pm, on the weekend 11am to 6pm. Admission is free.

The exhibition opens on Friday, August 28th at 6 p.m. in the Gewölbesaal of the Bürgerhaus in Schloß Neuhaus.
